Fees and Permits

Cleveland National Forest:   The National Forest Adventure Pass is a parking permit that can be purchased for an annual fee that allows parking in Southern California’s four national forests: Angeles National Forest, San Bernardino National Forest, and Cleveland National Forest. The annual pass currently costs $30 a year or $5 per day and can be purchased at Forest Service offices, outdoor retailers, and local outlets near or within the boundaries of the national forests.

An Adventure Pass is required for parking at “High Impact Recreation Areas,” which covers most locales along the main forest highways and all the most popular trailheads. Many of the trailhead parking lots in the Santa Ana Mountains within Cleveland National Forest are posted with signs that require users to display an Adventure Pass on their vehicle. For more information, call Cleveland National Forest, (619) 673-6180.

County Parks: The vehicle entry fee for the county’s regional parks is $3 per entry (usually via an “Iron Ranger”) Monday through Friday, and $5 per entry on Saturday and Sunday. Major holidays cost $7 to $10 per entry as posted. Wilderness parks cost $3 per vehicle entry, seven days a week. An annual day use pass for the county’s regional parks costs $55 a year. For more information about fees, call (866)OCparks.

State Parks: Day-use entry fees for California State Parks, such as Crystal Cove State Park and Doheny State Beach, begin at $5 per vehicle. An Annual Day Use Pass is also available and The Trailmaster heartily recommends getting one—a very good deal for state park enthusiasts,
